The rubella vaccine is recommended for women before pregnancy because rubella infection during pregnancy can lead to serious complications for both the mother and the fetus, including congenital rubella syndrome, which can result in severe birth defects. The vaccine is a live attenuated vaccine that provides immunity and is important to ensure that women who are planning to become pregnant are protected against rubella. Women are typically advised to receive the rubella vaccine at least one month before conception to establish immunity, making it a critical part of preconception care.

While other vaccines, such as the influenza, HPV, and varicella vaccines, have their own importance in women's health and reproductive planning, the primary focus for rubella vaccination specifically addresses the risks associated with pregnancy. The varicella vaccine is also live and important for protection against chickenpox, but in the context of this question, rubella is highlighted due to its particular risks during pregnancy.
